Descaling the Breville Bambino (BES450)
The ThermoJet heater scales over time even though there is no traditional boiler, so periodic descaling keeps heat-up fast and protects the internals. This walks through a full descale-and-rinse cycle.
Roughly every 2-3 months, or when the descale indicator prompts, adjusted for your water hardness - check your manual.
| soft | About every 3 months or when prompted |
| hard | About every 1-2 months or when prompted |
Check your manual: Descale intervals and the exact button sequence vary by water hardness and model revision, so check your manual before starting and follow its descale procedure and dosing.
Step by step
- Empty the drip tray and water tank, then fill the tank with fresh water plus descaling solution at the dose printed on the product for the Bambino's tank size.
- Enter descale mode as described in the instruction book and run the solution through both the brew path and the steam/hot-water path into a large container.
- Discard the used solution, refill the tank with fresh water, and run at least one to two full tank rinses through all outlets before brewing again.
- Do not brew coffee until you have completed the fresh-water rinse cycles, or the next shots will taste of descaler.
What you'll need
- Descaling solution or powder (Breville descaler or equivalent citric-acid-based descaler)
- Fresh water for rinsing
- Large container to catch the run-off

Breville Bambino maintenance questions
How often should I perform descaling the breville bambino (bes450)?
Use the cadence above as a planning reminder, then follow the Breville Bambino manual because water hardness, usage, model revision, and machine alerts can change the interval.
Can I substitute a different cleaning procedure or product?
Do not assume procedures are interchangeable. Descale intervals and the exact button sequence vary by water hardness and model revision, so check your manual before starting and follow its descale procedure and dosing.
