Coffee Setup Guide

Monthly backflush cleaning cycle

Run the machine's detergent backflush with the supplied cleaning disc and tablet to clear coffee oils from the group and three-way valve.

How often

About monthly, or when the machine prompts a clean cycle; check your manual for the exact trigger.

Check your manual: Cleaning-cycle triggers and steps vary by firmware and model revision, so check your manual before running a clean cycle.

Step by step

  1. Insert the supplied grey rubber cleaning disc into the single-wall filter basket and drop in one cleaning tablet.
  2. Lock the portafilter into the group and start the clean cycle as described in the manual, letting the machine backflush detergent through the group (about 5 minutes).
  3. Remove and rinse the disc, portafilter and basket thoroughly, then run a water-only flush to clear any remaining detergent before brewing.

Breville Barista Express Impress maintenance questions

How often should I perform monthly backflush cleaning cycle?

Use the cadence above as a planning reminder, then follow the Breville Barista Express Impress manual because water hardness, usage, model revision, and machine alerts can change the interval.

Can I substitute a different cleaning procedure or product?

Do not assume procedures are interchangeable. Cleaning-cycle triggers and steps vary by firmware and model revision, so check your manual before running a clean cycle.
