Coffee Setup Guide

Running the cleaning cycle and cleaning the group

Using the backflush cleaning cycle with a blind disc and tablet, plus wiping the shower screen and steam wand, to clear coffee oils. Do this when the CLEAN indicator appears or on the schedule in your manual.

How often

When the CLEAN indicator appears, or per the interval in your manual; check your manual for the recommended frequency.

Check your manual: The cleaning-cycle steps and indicator behavior differ between Breville models, so check your manual for the Barista Pro cleaning procedure; treat this as general guidance only.

Step by step

  1. Fit the supplied 54mm cleaning (blind) disc into the single-wall basket, drop in a cleaning tablet, and lock the portafilter into the group.
  2. Start the cleaning cycle following your manual and let it complete, then remove and rinse the disc, basket and portafilter thoroughly.
  3. Wipe the shower screen area, purge and wipe the single-hole steam wand, and empty and rinse the drip tray.
  4. Reassemble and pull a throwaway shot of water to rinse any residue before brewing.

Breville Barista Pro maintenance questions

How often should I perform running the cleaning cycle and cleaning the group?

Use the cadence above as a planning reminder, then follow the Breville Barista Pro manual because water hardness, usage, model revision, and machine alerts can change the interval.

Can I substitute a different cleaning procedure or product?

Do not assume procedures are interchangeable. The cleaning-cycle steps and indicator behavior differ between Breville models, so check your manual for the Barista Pro cleaning procedure; treat this as general guidance only.
