Descaling and flush-cleaning the Oracle Jet
Keep the ThermoJet heating system, group and steam wand clear of scale and coffee oils by running the machine's guided descale and flush/backflush cycles on schedule and keeping the water filter fresh.
Descale roughly every 2-3 months and run the flush/clean cycle whenever the machine prompts it; treat these as starting points and follow the interval and hardness guidance in your manual.
| soft / filtered water | descale about every 3 months (check your manual) |
| hard water | descale as often as every 4-6 weeks (check your manual) |
Check your manual: Intervals here are general starting points, not exact specs for your water - always check your manual for the descale, cleaning and water-filter schedule and the approved descaling products for your unit.
Step by step
- Run the guided descale cycle from the machine's menu using a Breville or citric-acid-based descaler diluted per the manual - never plain vinegar, which Breville advises against.
- After descaling, flush fresh water through the group head and the steam wand to clear any residue.
- Run the flush/backflush clean cycle with the blind cleaning disc and a Breville cleaning tablet when the clean-cycle prompt appears.
- Replace the tank water filter on the schedule in your manual and wipe the grind chute and tamp fan so oily fines don't clog dosing.
What you'll need
- Breville / citric-acid descaling solution
- Espresso machine cleaning tablets
- 58mm blind backflush cleaning disc

Breville Oracle Jet maintenance questions
How often should I perform descaling and flush-cleaning the oracle jet?
Use the cadence above as a planning reminder, then follow the Breville Oracle Jet manual because water hardness, usage, model revision, and machine alerts can change the interval.
Can I substitute a different cleaning procedure or product?
Do not assume procedures are interchangeable. Intervals here are general starting points, not exact specs for your water - always check your manual for the descale, cleaning and water-filter schedule and the approved descaling products for your unit.
