Descaling the La Specialista Touch
Descaling clears mineral scale from the thermoblock and water path. On a machine with a built-in grinder and dosing, keeping the water side healthy protects the most expensive part of the machine. How often depends mostly on your water hardness.
Every 2-3 months, or when the machine's descale indicator prompts you
| Soft / filtered water | Every 3-4 months |
| Medium-hardness water | Every 2-3 months |
| Hard water | Every 4-6 weeks |
Check your manual: These intervals are general guidance - always check your manual for the descaling interval and procedure specific to the La Specialista Touch, since your local water hardness determines how often you actually need to descale.
Step by step
- Empty the drip tray and water tank, and remove any in-tank water filter/softener.
- Fill the tank with De'Longhi EcoDecalk (or an espresso-machine descaler) mixed to the ratio on the bottle.
- Run the machine's descale routine through the group and steam wand as described in your La Specialista Touch manual.
- Refit a fresh filter (or refill with plain fresh water) and run two to three full tanks through to rinse before brewing again.
- Avoid vinegar - it can degrade internal seals. Use a descaler made for espresso machines.
- Remove any in-tank water filter before descaling so the solution doesn't ruin it.
- Rinse thoroughly so the next shot doesn't taste of solution.
