Replacing the in-tank water filter / softener

A fresh in-tank water filter/softener reduces the scale that reaches the thermoblock, which stretches the time between descales and protects the built-in grinder-and-brew unit. Filters exhaust over time, so they need periodic replacement rather than one-and-done fitting.

How often

Replace roughly every couple of months or after a set number of tanks - the exact life depends on your water hardness and how much you brew

Check your manual: Filter life varies with your water hardness and usage - check your manual for the correct water filter/softener part, fit and replacement interval specific to the La Specialista Touch.

Step by step

  1. Note the date whenever you seat a new filter/softener so you can track its life against your water hardness.
  2. When it's due, remove and discard the old in-tank filter, rinse the tank, and seat a fresh De'Longhi water filter/softener in the fit shown for the La Specialista Touch.
  3. Prime the new filter by running water through the group and steam wand until it flows clear before pulling your next shot.
  4. Remove the filter before any descaling cycle, then refit it (or a fresh one) once you've rinsed the machine.

De'Longhi La Specialista Touch maintenance questions

How often should I perform replacing the in-tank water filter / softener?

Use the cadence above as a planning reminder, then follow the De'Longhi La Specialista Touch manual because water hardness, usage, model revision, and machine alerts can change the interval.

Can I substitute a different cleaning procedure or product?

Do not assume procedures are interchangeable. Filter life varies with your water hardness and usage - check your manual for the correct water filter/softener part, fit and replacement interval specific to the La Specialista Touch.
