Descale the Infuser thermocoil
Run a descaling cycle when the DESCALE light comes on to clear scale from the 1650W thermocoil heating system and keep brew temperature and flow accurate.
When the machine's DESCALE indicator lights - check your manual (commonly every 2-3 months, sooner on hard water).
| Soft water | Roughly every 3 months or when the DESCALE light appears |
| Hard water | Roughly every 4-6 weeks or when the DESCALE light appears |
Check your manual: Descaling intervals and the exact descale-mode button sequence vary by unit and water hardness - always check your manual before starting.
Step by step
- Empty the drip tray and remove the water filter from the tank, then fill the tank with fresh water and a descaling solution mixed per the descaler's directions.
- Enter the descale mode as described in your manual and run the solution through both the brew head and the steam wand until the tank is nearly empty.
- Refill with clean fresh water and run a full rinse cycle through the brew head and steam wand to flush all descaler residue.
- Reinstall a fresh water filter and wipe down the machine.
- Do not brew coffee during a descale cycle; only run water and descaling solution.
What you'll need
- Espresso machine descaling solution (Breville descaler or citric-acid-based)

Breville Infuser maintenance questions
How often should I perform descale the infuser thermocoil?
Use the cadence above as a planning reminder, then follow the Breville Infuser manual because water hardness, usage, model revision, and machine alerts can change the interval.
Can I substitute a different cleaning procedure or product?
Do not assume procedures are interchangeable. Descaling intervals and the exact descale-mode button sequence vary by unit and water hardness - always check your manual before starting.
