Avoid:: Bottomless and replacement portafilters must match the Breville-54 ear family; a 58mm part will not fit. Many 54mm accessories are marketed for the 'Barista Express (BES870)' - those generally share the 54mm group and ears, but confirm the listing names the Infuser/BES840 or the Breville-54 fitment before buying. The stock steam tip is proprietary Breville - aftermarket multi-hole tips are scarce; treat the steam wand as fixed and focus upgrades on baskets, tamping and distribution.

Aftermarket steam tips or steam-wand mods - the tip is proprietary and hard to source; learn on the stock single-hole wand first.
A second machine or 'upgrade' before you have a decent burr grinder - the grinder is the limiting factor here, not the Infuser.

Avoid

58mm portafilters, baskets and tampers - they do not fit the 54mm Breville group.Generic 'Breville' bottomless portafilters that don't confirm Breville-54 / 54mm fitment for BES840.

Common wrong buys: Leaving the dual-wall pressurized basket in and then blaming a 'bad grind' - for real espresso, switch to the single-wall basket and dial in with a burr grinder. · Feeding pre-ground or blade-ground coffee into the single-wall basket, which channels and gushes because the Infuser has no grinder of its own. · Skipping the razor dose-trimming tool, so an over-full puck presses against the shower screen and mars extraction. · Ignoring the DESCALE/CLEAN light and letting scale build up in the thermocoil, especially on hard water. · Not purging and wiping the single-hole steam wand right after texturing milk, which lets the tip clog. · Guessing descale and clean intervals instead of following the manual - check your manual for the correct DESCALE/CLEAN triggers, button sequence and tablet dosing for the BES840.
