Cleaning the De'Longhi Dedica (no backflushing)
The Dedica has no 3-way solenoid valve, so it is not designed to be backflushed. You keep it clean with simple habits - rinsing the shower screen, basket, and panarello - not a backflush cycle.
Weekly with daily use, plus a wipe-down after each milk session
Check your manual: Follow the cleaning steps in your Dedica manual; because this machine isn't designed to backflush, routine rinsing of the screen, basket, and wand is what keeps it clean.
Step by step
- After the machine cools and pressure has bled off (wait about a minute before removing the portafilter), remove and rinse the pressurized basket and portafilter.
- Remove and rinse the shower screen at the group, clearing any grounds, then refit it.
- Purge and wipe the panarello wand immediately after every milk session so it never clogs.
- Periodically soak the basket and portafilter in espresso-machine cleaner, then rinse well.
- The Dedica has no backflush valve - don't block the basket to force back-pressure; there's nowhere for it to vent.
What you'll need
- Espresso-machine cleaner (soak)
- Group-head cleaning brush

Can I substitute a different cleaning procedure or product?
Do not assume procedures are interchangeable. Follow the cleaning steps in your Dedica manual; because this machine isn't designed to backflush, routine rinsing of the screen, basket, and wand is what keeps it clean.
