Descale the De'Longhi ECP3420
Regular descaling clears scale from the boiler and water path so the ECP3420 keeps brewing at temperature and steaming with full pressure. Use a proper coffee-machine descaler, never vinegar, to protect the aluminum boiler and seals.
Follow the interval in your manual; De'Longhi guidance is roughly monthly with hard water and quarterly with soft water.
| hard | about once a month |
| soft | about once a quarter |
Check your manual: Descaling intervals and the exact procedure vary with your water hardness and model revision, so always check your manual for the recommended descaler, dosing and cycle before you start.
Step by step
- Empty the drip tray and fill the water tank with fresh water plus a liquid descaling solution made for coffee machines, following the dose on the product label.
- Place a large container under the group and the steam wand, then run the descaling solution through the brew head and the steam wand in stages as your manual directs, letting it dwell as instructed.
- When the tank is empty, refill with clean fresh water and run at least one full tank through both the brew head and steam wand to rinse out all descaler residue before making coffee.
- Wipe down the group screen, portafilter, baskets and Panarello sleeve, and reassemble.
- Do not use plain vinegar; its acidity can damage the aluminum boiler and rubber seals over time.
- Never skip the fresh-water rinse cycles, or descaler residue can taint the next shots.
What you'll need
- Liquid coffee-machine descaling solution (not vinegar)
- Large container to catch the runoff
- Microfiber cloth for the group and Panarello
